Summary: Cares for pediatric patients referred by the emergency department, urgent care and primary care provider, then returns care of the patient to the primary care. This position provides inpatient pediatric/newborn care in 2 primary venues.
The Pediatric Hospitalist cares for pediatric patients referred by the emergency department, urgent care and primary care provider, then returns care of the patient to the primary care physician at the time of discharge. The hospitalist is responsible for managing the care of pediatric inpatients and works collaboratively with nurse case and care managers, care coordinators, consulting and primary care physicians and other facility-based healthcare professionals who comprise the patient s care team.

The hospitalist leads the care team in providing efficient but compassionate care.

Presbyterian Medical Group seeks a Pediatric Hospitalist MD/DO to join our established practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We're all about well-being, starting with yours. Practice Highlights
  • 24/7 inpatient care for children with both routine and complex medical conditions.
  • Pediatric sedation service, sedating pediatric patients for noninvasive medical procedures and imaging studies
  • in-person and telemedicine consultative services for our on-site emergency department(s), urgent care locations and outlying facilities
  • In addition to pediatric care, we manage a newborn nursery, attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation/stabilization as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees and is accountable for the overall quality of care and clinical outcomes within the assigned facilities.
  • Oversees and is accountable for all resource utilization within the assigned facilities.
  • Ensure both patient and provider satisfaction and develop plans for improvement.
  • Provides input into the hospitalist team s financial, clinical, and service quality performance; budget; capital plan; and personnel issues.
  • Organize, attend and facilitate daily care team meetings within the assigned facility.
  • Attend and participate in all regular scheduled hospitalist meetings.
  • Attend and participate in requested QI, Peer Review and Care Management meetings.
  • Attend and participate in Sub-specialist/Medical group meetings as requested.
  • Provide real time feedback to PCPs regarding clinical and operational guidelines to optimize patient care and clinical efficiency.
  • Maintain coding and encounter data standards for completeness, accuracy, timeliness and reimbursement level., including legible documentation
  • Meet and maintain all provider credentialing and QI standards.
  • Participate in the development, adoption, and implementation process for clinical standards for inpatient pediatric and newborn care.
  • Knowledgeable of the contents of The Hospitalist Manual:
    An Evidence-Based Approach to Medicine.
  • Knowledgeable of the contents of Guidelines for Perinatal Care.
  • Work with the Medical Director to assure proper provider staffing, including vacation coverage.
  • Mentor and educate all new Pediatric Hospitalists (physician and APC) on PMG's service standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature review, in-services, and workshops.
  • Maintains credentialing for performance of lumbar puncture, circumcision, frenectomy and neonatal intubation.
  • Maintains Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
  • Performs other functions as required.
