Neurosurgery- Pediatric Neurosurgery

Overview

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting to fill a board certified or board eligible, Open Rank, Open Track, position for provision of pediatric neurosurgery care. This person will join the established pediatric neurosurgeon currently practicing and teaching neurosurgery residents at the University of New Mexico. The University of New Mexico is the only tertiary referral Neurosurgical center in the State and there is a significant need and opportunity to grow and expand an established practice focused on the pediatric patients of New Mexico.

Overall, the department has a comprehensive practice focusing on a diverse range of neurological disorders in both pediatric and adult neurosurgery, with recent re-establishment of an ACGME approved residency in 2022. UNM is also the only Level 1 trauma center in the state and participation in the general trauma call pool will be expected.

• Provide pediatric neurosurgery care as part of an established clinical service.
• Join the existing pediatric neurosurgeon in practice and teaching of neurosurgery residents.
• Participate in the state’s Level 1 trauma center operations; expected to participate in the general trauma call pool.

Minimum Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent degree
• Completion of an ACGME accredited pediatric neurosurgery fellowship
• ABNS Board Certification in Neurological Surgery and Board Certification or ABPNS Board Eligibility in Pediatric Neurosurgery

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic neurosurgery practice; with a minimum of one year as fellow or attending surgeon, working with residents and students
• Teaching: experience with lectures and presentations
• Scholarly activity: publication, participation in clinical/translational research, and/or independent funding of research
• Commitment to Community: demonstrated commitment to understand the cultures of New Mexico and to the university's mission to serve local and global communities
