Overview
The Albuquerque VA is recruiting for 1 Physician (Hospitalist) at the Raymond G. Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Physician (Hospitalist) position includes an appointment as University of New Mexico Faculty, reporting to the Division of Hospital Medicine, with responsibilities that include educating residents, medical students, and other learners.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
BasicRequirements

- English Language Proficiency
- Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)
- Education:
Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent - Must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation
- License:
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia - Residency Training:
Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification - Approved residencies: ACGME or AOA approved, or other residencies with at least five years of verified practice in the United States as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed and may be appointed intermittently or on a fee-basis
- PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they may have a limited scope of practice under supervision
- Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
- Additional Requirement:
Eligibility for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico based on qualifications and experience - Board eligibility or board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)

- Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform duties of Physician under normal and emergent conditions, including moderate lifting and heavy carrying with or without assistive devices, reach above shoulder, use of fingers, walking/standing 4 hours per day, bending up to 1-2 hours per day, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision, and hearing with aid
- Provide inpatient management for patients admitted to the internal medicine service, including teaching and non-teaching teams
- Supervise and assist Internal Medicine Residents in patient care and medical education
- Deliver internal medicine consultation services to other hospital departments and medical teams
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, innovation, and academic research opportunities within the hospitalist program
- Perform other duties as appropriately assigned
- Work Schedule:
Tuesday-Wednesday 7:00am–7:30pm
