Position Summary

El Centro de la Raza will positively impact the transition, retention, and graduation of students through an engaging environment built on academic, cultural, personal, and professional activities. El Centro's Student Success Leaders are critical to our mission, as undergraduate student employees who assist with managing our front office/reception area and helping professional staff with projects. Student Success Leaders are responsible for being the first point of contact for El Centro's visitors, including students, staff, and community members.

As such, Student Success Leaders are responsible for keeping the "Home Away From Home" environment that El Centro is known for, and directing students and other visitors to appropriate resources on campus. Student Success Leaders will leave UNM & El Centro not only equipped with the knowledge learned from their program of study but also with hands‑on experience and tangible skills for post‑graduation endeavors.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Create a fun, welcoming, and professional environment for students and families.
  • Demonstrate stellar customer service and be able to answer questions about the department.
  • Communicate with students, staff, faculty, and community.
  • General office duties such as managing the reception area, directing phone calls, attending to emails, scheduling appointments, etc.
  • Assist in the creation of flyers and other marketing materials.
  • Manage and archive materials and files.
  • Help with events, workshops, and other tasks.
  • Represent the department during tabling events and school/community visits.
  • Other job‑related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Professional attitudes: punctual, responsible, reliable, and proactive.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize when assigned multiple tasks.
  • Ability to understand most operating systems and computer software.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication (written & oral) skills to work effectively with a wide range of diverse communities.
