In the Bosque School Math Department, we are committed to an approach that goes beyonda passive model of learning and merely imparting math facts. We strive to teach students how to learn andlove math.
Collaborating as a dynamic team dedicated to creativity and risk-taking in our teaching, we engage students in true problem-solving, not simply the application of rote skills to complex problems, where technology becomes a tool for discovery and extension, not just a calculation device. We recognize thatwhen students tackle rich math tasks, ask insightful questions, take risks, practice core skills, and learn from mistakes, they build mathematical capacity, resilience, understanding, and mastery.
Moreover, we believe that teaching students how to learn and work collaboratively equips them with the tools to succeed in tomorrow’s world. As an upper school math teacher who combines mathematical aptitude with pedagogical knowledge specific to mathematics, you will be integral to helping us further refine and implement an outstanding, rigorous, and holistic Challenging Education curriculum while bringing wisdom, energy, insight, and warmth to the position and department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach five sections of math, the core of which will be Algebra I, with the ability to teach additional upper school math classes, including potentially advanced classes.
- Provide students with thoughtful, timely formative and summative feedback aligned with school,divisional, and departmental assessment expectations. Prepare and enter grades, comments, andgrade reports in accordance with school and divisional policies.
- Co-teach one immersive course in May.
- In and out of the classroom, model a commitment to and a growth mindset for manifesting Bosque School’s mission, core values, and Equity, Community, and Culture Principles and Best Practices forAll Employees.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleague sand contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community.
- Actively support and stay current on the needs of and changes to formal Bosque School student learning and medical/mental health plans. Work collaboratively with the Student Support Team,including the learning specialist, nurse, counselors, deans, and division heads, to integrate student accommodations into the classroom.
- Provide extra help for students, such as being available during office hours/non-teaching periods tomeet with students.
- Keep parents informed promptly if a student is not meeting academic or behavioral expectations,including divisional expectations.
- Participate in parent/guardian conferences and parent/guardian programs at school.
- Adhere to internal and external school communication guidelines.
- Attend staffulty, department, and grade-level meetings, arriving on time and participating professionally throughout the meeting.
- Collaboratively work with colleagues and administrators in support of the manifestation of our mission and values. When disagreements arise, lean into our “cultivating community” behaviors ofcoming together in moments of crisis and confusion, assuming positive intent, and seeking clarification.
- Work closely with the math department and grade-level teams.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation for adolescent students.
- Engage in the planning and execution of interdisciplinary project work.
- Participate fully in the Bosque community, supporting students, colleagues, families, and school culture and community.
- Engage enthusiastically in our robust annual professional development program.
