Position Summary
University of New Mexico Division of Physical Therapy is seeking a licensed physical therapist with substantial clinical experience in musculoskeletal physical therapy and appropriate doctoral preparation to join its faculty in an open‑rank, twelve‑month position. The program seeks an individual who can provide primary instruction in the musculoskeletal and anatomy curriculum, contribute to additional content areas aligned with expertise, advise students, and engage in scholarly activity.
The program seeks a flexible, collaborative educator who applies principles of evidence‑based practice and is committed to advancing high quality instruction within a small, learner‑centered Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
The program is a small program (~30 students) with core faculty and an innovative environment dedicated to education, research, and service. Teaching facilities include three dedicated classrooms, a state‑of‑the‑art human cadaver anatomy lab and an Interprofessional Simulation Center. Research facilities include access to UNM Hospital, Level 1 trauma center, motion disorders clinic, and a gait/motion analysis laboratory with infrared cameras, force plates, EMG, and isokinetic dynamometer.
Faculty may contribute to the REACH Clinic (student‑run pro‑bono clinic) and international study abroad initiatives.
UNM PT program is a residential program located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offering a vibrant blend of culture, nature, and opportunity, with ample outdoor recreation.

Position DescriptionFull‑time 12‑month open‑track faculty position in a 3‑year entry‑level DPT program.
Responsibilities include:
- Primary teaching in musculoskeletal physical therapy, including gross anatomy.
- Secondary teaching in other areas of the DPT curriculum, depending on expertise (prosthetics, pelvic health, interventions, biomechanics, gait analysis, musculoskeletal evaluation, orthopaedic residency or women’s health residency).
- Scholarship.
- Student advisement.
- Optional responsibilities: basic science or clinical research, leadership related to the motion analysis laboratory, clinical or administrative service.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The candidate must be a flexible, innovative, and collaborative educator who uses evidence‑based practice to promote current standards of care in this learner‑centered entry‑level DPT program.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Licensed physical therapist with a minimum of five years of clinical experience.
- Board Specialist certification.
- Hold either a clinical (DPT) or academic (Ph.D.,
D.Sc., Ed.D.) doctoral degree. - Eligible for PT licensure in New Mexico.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic doctoral degree (Ph.D.,
D.Sc., Ed.D.). - Experience teaching musculoskeletal physical therapy.
- Prior teaching experience in a PT professional program.
- Evidence of nationally recognized service or scholarship aligned with CAPTE requirements.
- Board or exam‑based certification related to musculoskeletal specialty.
- Fellowship training related to musculoskeletal specialties.
- Greater than five years of clinical experience.
- Teaching experience in areas compatible with program needs, including prosthetics, pelvic health, interventions, biomechanics, gait analysis, gross anatomy.
- Demonstrated commitment to understanding the diverse cultures of New Mexico and supporting the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
