Responsibilities- Support research in nonlinear metasurfaces including harmonic generation, parametric down‑conversion and other quantum‑optical phenomena.
- Design, simulate, fabricate, and/or characterize semiconductor based metasurfaces using electromagnetic simulation tools.
- Study new physics phenomena and evaluate new concepts.
- Report research results in top‑tier journals and professional conferences.
- Generate new intellectual property through patent filing.
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Optical Science, or other related STEM field conferred within five (5) years prior to employment
- Experience in: performing original research, demonstrated through a record of invention, original publications in top‑tier journals, and conference papers and presentations
- Photonic design using FDTD or FEM based techniques
- Experimental characterization including guided wave and free space optics
- Nonlinear and quantum optics
- Experienced with nanofabrication such as electron beam lithography, RIE/ICP and wet etching, metallization, scanning electron micrography, etc.
- Experience in single‑photon measurements
- Familiarity with cryostats for low temperature measurements
- Knowledge of quantum optics as it relates to quantum information science, and measurements
- Experience with femtosecond lasers, amplifiers, and s
- Expertise in fabrication, characterization, and usage of various III‑V and II‑VI semiconductors (e.g. silicon, GaAs/Al Ga As /InP/InAs, etc.)
- Design and test of photonics devices (such as wave guides, gratings, modulators, lasers, amplifiers, optical detectors)
Our department supports the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials.
