The ideal candidate will have experience applying systems engineering concepts to help convert technical objectives into real-world test configurations, review test plans for scientific process, coordinate radio frequency approval documents, maintain schedules for large projects, and fly quadcopters for counter Unmanned Aerial Systems efforts.
The Systems Engineer will support the Air Force Material Command (AFMC) in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. Travel will be required for this position. #KS Responsibilities This position requires the application of sound systems engineering concepts and scientific and technical practices throughout the test and experimentation process. The Systems Engineer will help define testable technical objectives that when achieved, will clearly identify system capabilities and limitations.
Additionally, the Systems Engineer will contribute to the development of test plans, test execution, analysis, and reporting of organization test events. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Assist the RDMT spectrum manager as needed with document development and for coordination of requirements for obtaining spectrum management approvals for electronic attack and radio frequency requests necessary for test execution.
* Responsible for assisting the organization with logistics required for movement of DE systems for testing and fielding DE systems to other locations.
* Maintain inventory of assets, prepare shipping documents and systems for shipment, and coordinate with government and commercial transportations agencies.
* Responsible for supporting the planning, tracking, execution, and reporting of HPM and HEL test and events. This includes assisting with test site design and configuration, assessing/addressing project risks, and project schedule management. This also includes the review of test plans and standard operating procedures developed by other organizations and contractor personnel.
* Participate in the organization's small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) flight program. Operate group 1 and 2 fixed and rotary wing UASs used to challenge DEW during testing to assess their capability to support the counter small UAS mission. Complete all required training, system preparation and maintenance requirements, execution (flying) activities, and logging flight/sortie data.
* Responsible for operation of basic HPM and HEL data acquisition systems such as the TSPI target tracking and the PEMSVA power density measurement/diagnostics systems. Anticipate working in the field (at Kirtland and off site) 25%-50% of the time; however, some travel will be required. Per year, anticipate one to three two-week trips annually to support DE field testing. Travel could be to an OCONUS location.
Anticipate two to three site surveys/visits and/or interface meetings at other government facilities. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Active Secret clearance
* Between 3-10 years of experience and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or other scientific fields OR a combination of curriculum that demonstrates competence in those fields. Comparable work experience desired
* Work Location and Travel Requirements:
* Ability to be on-site at Kirtland AFB or at an off-site 25-50% of the time
* Ability to travel to conduct site surveys/visit, including to OCONUS locations two-three times per year
* Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills Desired
Qualifications:
* Active Top Secret clearance
* Small UAS pilot experience
* Developmental and/or operational field test experience
* Directed Energy familiarity and must have the motivation to learn DE technologies and real-world Air Force applications
