Position Summary The School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a post doctoral fellow Postdoctoral Research Associate in Reservoir Computing, Echo State Networks, and Safe Learning for Autonomy.
The Optimization and Estimation Laboratory at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in reservoircomputing, echo state networks, and safe learning for autonomous systems.
The position focuses on adaptive recurrent learning systems for dynamicalprediction, estimation, and control. The broader goal is to developreservoir-based models that can adapt online while preserving useful stability, robustness, and safety properties. The project is motivated by autonomous systems that operate under uncertainty, drift, faults, and changing environments.
Research AreasThe successful candidate will work on one or more of the following topics:
- Reservoir computing and echo state networks for dynamical-system prediction.
- Adaptive and structured recurrent models with stability guarantees.
- Echo-state, contraction, and incremental-stability analysis.
- Certified learning for estimation, control, and safe autonomy.
- Applications to robotic, and cyber-physical systems.
The postdoctoralresearcher will be expected to:
- Publish research results in leading journals and conferences in the fields of control, machine learning, and robotics.
- Lead group projects related to reservoir computing and autonomous systems.
- Collaborate with graduate students working on related research projects.
- Write proposals for funding opportunities.
- Other duties as requested.
Strongcandidates will have a background in one or more of the following areas:reservoir computing, recurrent neural networks, machine learning for dynamical systems, nonlinear systems, adaptive control, robust estimation, robotics, orsafe autonomy.
Experience with Python, PyTorch or JAX, numerical simulation, and academic writing is expected. Experience with hardware experiments, ROS, UAVs, UGVs, ormotion-capture systems is helpful but not required.
The University of New Mexico is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, making decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class.
