Overview
Supervise, coordinate, and oversee the work of staff responsible for reviewing residential, commercial, and industrial building construction plans for compliance with the Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO), Comprehensive Plan, and related zoning and land-use regulations. This position will provide leadership, training, and quality control for zoning plan review activities; ensure consistent application of ordinances, codes, and standards; coordinate plan‑checking activities with other departments and agencies;
and serve as a technical resource to staff, management, developers, architects, contractors, and the public. In addition, it provides oversight in broader zoning administration functions, including zoning interpretations, policy input, preparation of staff reports for boards and commissions, and support for appeals and hearings.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in building inspection, zoning plan review, or land‑use regulation.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid Plan Review Certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC) preferred.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of or an appropriate valid housing code certificate issued by the International Code Council (ICC) or possession of a certification issued by the State of New Mexico as a Building Inspector within six (6) months from date of hire.
