The Occupational Safety Support Specialist provides advisory and assistance services to the Air Force Occupational Safety mission at Kirkland Air Force Base (AFB) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This role supports the Air Force Safety Center’s Occupational Safety Division by evaluating safety standards, analyzing mishap data, and developing safety education programs to promote a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:Safety Analysis and Investigations:
- Perform data mining and analysis to evaluate mishap trends and provide safety recommendations.
- Investigate mishap causal factors and develop comprehensive trend analysis using the Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS).
- Compare Air Force safety data with external agencies like Navy, Army, or NHTSA to identify patterns and opportunities for improvement.
Safety Policy and Recommendations:
- Identify unsafe operations and conditions, providing written recommendations for corrective actions.
- Develop, revise, and enforce safety and occupational health instructions, rules, and regulations.
- Provide expertise on Air Force safety guidance, processes, and standards.
Education and Training:
- Develop and conduct comprehensive safety education programs to enhance awareness and compliance.
- Communicate mishap statistics and lessons learned to Air Force personnel and other stakeholders.
Support for Safety
Activities:
- Assist with traffic and occupational safety initiatives and research efforts.
- Maintain awareness of human factors influencing workplace safety and integrate findings into safety recommendations.
- Support ongoing safety programs and assist in developing best practices for mishap prevention.
The Occupational Safety Support Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Air Force personnel. By analyzing safety data, providing actionable recommendations, and conducting educational programs, the specialist supports the Air Force’s mission to maintain a safe and effective working environment.
Requirements Education:- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational safety, health, or a related field.
Safety Expertise:
- Thorough understanding of occupational safety and health principles, practices, and procedures.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards
