Requisition Working Title Research Scientist 2 Position Grade 12 Position Summary The UNM HSC Center for Native American Health (CNAH) specializes in student and workforce development, community engagement, community-based participatory research (CBPR), community health assessment capacity building, program planning, and project management.
CNAH promotes Indigenous well-being through research engaging leadership, communities, students, and knowledge in the discovery of local solutions. We provide technical assistance through contracts and academic service to tribal programs, academic institutions and departments, non-profit and community organizations, and students on Indigenous health topics using a CBPR approach.
CNAH has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist 2 to join our Center and our Research Core. This position will primarily work in support of our WEAVE Heart Health and Nutrition for Life (HHNL) project, and may also assist with data collection as part of the Addressing Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Disparities:
The American Indigenous Cognitive Assessment (AMICA) grant. As a multi-level intervention, WEAVE HHNL is designed to advance the science of community-engaged health disparities research across multi-cultural populations, ensuring high rigor and reproducibility and including a focus on social determinants of health interventions that address the root causes and drivers that impact cardiovascular disease (hypertension) and health outcomes across diverse multi-cultural populations.
AMICA focuses on developing and validating a culturally appropriate toolkit to evaluate American Indian patients for Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Specific duties for this position may include, but are not limited to:
• Supporting design, data collection, reporting, and advanced analysis for stakeholder interviews and focus groups in both the clinical trial and food justice components of the WEAVEHHNL multi-level intervention.
• Implementing and overseeing data collection with manualized AMICA-related neuropsychological assessment tools.
• Producing narrative and visual content for grant reporting as well as community-engaged research dissemination, inclusive of web site re-implementation and direct participation in research product development.
• Providing scientific support for meetings and events with community partners as a core practice of community-engaged research.
• Collaboratively implementing and tracking revisions to health education curricular materials in English and Spanish of moderate complexity with independent organization.

Conditions of Employment- Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications• Experience with engaging and trust-building with Native American individuals and communities.
• Strong and demonstrated track record in advanced qualitative data collection and analysis as well as oversight and use of manualized assessment tools for health conditions.
• Experience with community engaged research partnerships.
• Ability to produce and edit high quality professional writing and evaluation and tracking reports, including documenting revisions of health education curricular materials.
