Summary:

Build your career. Make a difference. Presbyterian is hiring a skilled Patient Access Account Specialist I. The role provides basic functions to financially clear patient accounts for government and commercial accounts prior to the date of service.

Responsibilities
  • Achieve exceptional patient experience for patients and patient families by using CARES, AIDET, and EPE tools.
  • Address and attempt to appropriately resolve complaints in the moment using de‑escalation processes.
  • Manage conflict and request supervisor assistance when needed.
  • Implement PROMISE and CARES behaviors in every encounter.
  • Educate patients about insurance benefits and liabilities.
  • Ensure accounts are financially cleared prior to date of service.
  • Perform the patient registration process and manage accurate collection of patient data.
  • Obtain and confirm demographic and financial information necessary for final clearance of scheduled accounts.
  • Review urgent/emergent admission accounts for notifications and authorization pre‑discharge.
  • Obtain missing insurance information including policy number, group number, date of birth, and insurance phone number.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using online electronic verification or direct payer contact.
  • Collect identified patient financial obligation amounts including residual balance.
  • Ensure a payer source has been identified prior to services being rendered.
  • Ensure authorization for correct procedure (CPT), facility, and date of service is obtained.
  • Contact patients pre‑visit to complete any missing information.
  • Communicate patient liabilities and authorization issues transparently and in a timely manner.
  • Perform assigned patient care responsibilities and cooperate in all risk management activities and investigations.
Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a healthcare setting within Patient Access and/or billing plus a strong customer service background.
