The Comprehensive Cancer Program Coordinator will work with the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) to reduce the burden of cancer in New Mexico. The role supports policy, systems, and environmental initiatives that promote prevention, early detection, survivorship, health equity, and related outcomes.
Why does the job exist?This position collaborates with key stakeholders to identify and implement strategies to reduce the burden of cancer in New Mexico. It supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cancer prevention and control initiatives that use evidence‑based approaches, including those that impact risk reduction, screening, survivorship, health equity, and policy, systems and the built environment.
How does it get done?The person facilitates partnership development and provides tailored technical assistance to contractors and community partners, including the New Mexico Cancer Council, to ensure grant requirements are met.
Specific tasks include:- Assist the New Mexico Cancer Council with administrative tasks, including meeting minutes and communications, and support special projects.
- Use strong technical writing and analytical skills for grant reporting, evaluation, and communication.
- Develop and monitor contracts for the Comprehensive Cancer Program with partners in community education and cancer support.
- Develop and/or revise educational materials such as brochures and presentations for audiences with varying levels of health literacy.
- Conduct educational presentations on cancer prevention and control topics for priority populations.
- Provide technical assistance to contractors and other partners.
- Provide leadership, support, coordination, and collaboration to Population and Community Health Bureau processes and activities.
Patients and the general public at risk for certain cancers, cancer survivors and caregivers, public health professionals, and partners who support cancer control and prevention activities. Key program partners include member organizations of the New Mexico Cancer Council.
Ideal Candidate- Experience and knowledge of public health principles and approaches, especially cancer prevention and control.
- Community and coalition partnership development and sustainability, including leadership within partnerships.
- Outstanding communication and writing skills.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders on project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience working to achieve health equity.
Associate’s degree and two (2) years of program administration or project management experience in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education and/or direct experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminals (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. The employee must be able to meet numerous deadlines.
