Pay Range

Base pay: $17.56/hr - $17.56/hr.

Position Summary

The Division of Physical Therapy is seeking Spanish interpreters to assist at a physical therapy lab (REACH) that offers free services to uninsured and underinsured populations. The clinic operates every Thursday evening on North campus from 3:30 - 7:30 PM during fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities
  • Verbal interpretation between physical therapy students and Spanish-speaking lab participants.
  • Assist with intake and consent forms.
  • Interpret medical intake forms for students.
  • Type Spanish instructions for home exercise programs and other patient education documents.
  • Attend every Thursday evening during fall and spring semesters from October through April.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must successfully pass the UNMH Interpreter/Translator Medical Qualification Test.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Certification/Licensure:
    Interpreter/Translator Certificate and/or Certificate of Competency from an approved Interpreter/Translator training program.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Spanish‑language interpreter.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to conduct yourself professionally and cordially.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology in Spanish.
  • Basic understanding of the healthcare system.
Benefits

Eligible for benefits. Non‑exempt hourly pay: $17.56 - $22.89. Eligible for the Veteran Preference Program. No benefits available for this term position. Required to make mandatory retirement contributions for employees working greater than .25 FTE under the New Mexico Education Retirement Act.
