This position reports to:
Engineering Tooling/Machinist (Supervisor)
Under minimal supervision from the machine shop supervisor, the role involves analyzing a variety of specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fitting and assembling parts to make or repair molds, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or mechanical hand tools. Key responsibilities include maintaining production by repairing molds and tooling while keeping tight tolerances, and programming HAAS CNC lathes and mills.
Safety- Understands and follows plant safety procedures
- Avoids or prevents hazardous conditions
- Wears appropriate protective equipment, dresses, and conducts self in a safe manner
- Keeps work area clean and orderly and maintains Lean 5S
- Participates in plant safety objectives
- Capable of operating an open setup mill, lathe, and surface grinders
- Proficient in programming CNC lathe and CNC mill
- Repair molds and tooling while keeping tight tolerances ±.001”
- Read engineering drawings and fabricate tooling from them
- Set up and use a TIG welder with a high degree of skill
- Use a variety of hand tools and fixtures
- Clean and examine tooling for defects
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers
- Repair fixtures as necessary
- Follow all company policies and regulations
- Perform quality checks and respond to projects in a timely manner
- Take proactive ownership and responsibility for product quality after fabrication
- Perform duties as assigned by supervisor or team lead
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 5–10 years experience in a similar environment
- Experience in lieu of education will be considered
- Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs
- Knowledge and understanding of various types of production equipment
- Good interpersonal skills, able to work with minimal supervision to meet department goals
- Good mechanical/electrical abilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read blueprints
- Injection molding skills
- Ability to read and understand various written instructions in English
- Ability to bend, twist, and turn in a safe manner
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Stand for long periods
- Good hand dexterity
- Ability to speak and write clear English communications
- Strong math skills
