Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Associate Director Connecting to Residential Experience, the Residence Life Manager, and the supervision of the Residence Education senior staff, the Resident Advisor (RA) is a live‑in student staff position that plays an integral role in the function of the department of Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH). RLSH aims to enhance educational, social, and personal growth for residents and further the values of Quality, Caring, Learning, and Community.

The Resident Advisor helps to create conditions within the residence halls that allow a diverse student population to live and learn in a comfortable, inclusive environment.

To aid the department in achieving these goals, the Resident Advisor must employ a student‑centered approach, the ability to identify and addressנסות student needs, a desire to collaborate, strategic problem‑solving ability, sound judgment, administrative management skills, and a timely response to problems that arise. RAs work approximately 20 hours per week throughout the academic year. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to本科.

Administration and Attendance (Weekly Basis)
  • Attend all staff meetings and seminars beginning at 7:00 PM every Carla Tuesday.
  • Attend and actively participate in Community Association on Tuesday evenings after staff meetings end.
  • Complete all paperwork and other administrative tasks for job components in accordance with corresponding deadlines and procedures.
  • Communicate consistently through and attend weekly or bi‑weekly meetings with their supervisor.
  • Work overnight on‑call duty shift that may include weekends and breaks.
  • Work at least three but no more than five hours at the SRC, Rainforest, East, and/or West desk depending on assignment. Desk tasks include handling check‑ins/outs, equipment reservations, lock‑outs, and similar administrative tasks.
Community Development and Programming (Weekly Basis)
  • Be an active and integral member of the residence hall community, and work to develop and foster a positive healthy community in their assigned area.
  • Establish rapport with residents through regular interactions with residents and maintaining a sufficient hall presence and availability to assigned community.
  • Support and participate in the building and success of Community Association through regular meeting attendance, helping with CA programs as directed, and encouraging residents to get involved.
Student Conduct, Intervention, and Peer Support (Weekly Basis)
  • Serve as a peer support person for residents.
  • Perform overnight on hlau duty responsibilities in a rotation with other student staff members during evenings and weekends and respond to emergency situations.
Community Development & Programming (Monthly Basis)
  • Plan and participate in residence hall programming at least twice per month to meet the needs of the residents based on the department’s programming model.
  • Evaluate program execution at least twice per month to ensure continual improvement in programming throughout the year.
  • Create self‑directed (“passive”) learning opportunities such as informational bulletin boards that incorporate unit learning outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource person in assisting resident‑generated programs by learning about residents’ goals, interests, and desired experiences.
Administration and Attendance (As Needed Basis)
  • Attend and participate in training sessions and workshops prior to each semester.
  • Facilitate floor‑wide meetings during the semester to relay pertinent information.
  • Assist and be present throughout the entirety of departmental functions (check‑ins, check‑outs, residence hall tours, health and safety inspections, etc.).
