Summary

The pediatric neurology Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) serves as a clinical resource and independent provider assisting the pediatric neurology service. The role manages outpatient care for children with neurological conditions, including epilepsy, migraine, developmental delay, and cerebral palsy, through thorough assessment, diagnostic work‑up, treatment, and patient/family education.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments and physical exams for newborns and pediatric patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Order, interpret, and utilize screening and diagnostic tests for neurological evaluation.
  • Formulate diagnoses using clinical judgment, history, exam findings, and test results.
  • Adjust assessment techniques to accommodate patient age, culture, and developmental stage.
  • Communicate findings and treatment plans effectively to patients and families, establishing care agreements.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions with pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions, guiding patients in treatment adherence.
  • Prepare written prescription orders, medications, and controlled substances following NM state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate timely consultations or referrals with pediatric neurologists and other health‑care providers.
  • Develop and implement health promotion strategies tailored to age and cultural needs.
  • Maintain professional interpersonal communication skills and rapport with all patients and team members.
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records per hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (CNP) or PA-C license. NM Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license, and AANPCB certification required for NP;
    Baccalaureate and county license required for PA.
  • Experience performing neurologic exams in children, including funduscopic exams.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in pediatric neurology if prior specific experience is lacking.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
