Job Description
WSP is hiring On Call Archaeology Field Technicians with 1+ year of experience for project work in Arizona and New Mexico. Selected candidates will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team, working under supervisory field staff and senior archaeologists to complete assigned survey and mitigation tasks such as testing, data recovery and monitoring. Compensation is $26–$30 per hour, commensurate with credentials and experience.
Successful candidates will work with environmental and heritage/cultural resources specialists throughout the West and may be called on to perform fieldwork in adjacent states. They will conduct fieldwork and support the collection and preparation of digital data for reporting findings, using various digital data collection software and hardware and completing state IMACS forms. Great Basin and Southwestern experience is preferred but not required.
Travel to project sites in Arizona and New Mexico will be required, with per diem provided.
Your Impact- Participation in Class I–Class III assessments and avoidance recommendations
- Contributing to heritage/cultural resource investigations supporting client projects, compliant with NEPA, NHPA, NAGPRA, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Travel to project sites in Arizona and New Mexico, with per diem and possible 10‑day remote rotations and camping
- B.A./B.S. degree (M.S./M.A. preferred) in Archaeology, Anthropology, History or related field
- 1–3 years of professional experience researching, analyzing, managing archaeological and historic preservation plans and staff
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of cultural resources and environmental regulations, including North American archaeology
- Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office, NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA and relevant state laws
- Ability to perform pedestrian survey, carry up to 25 lbs. of personal gear and equipment, and work in hot, dry high‑desert conditions
- Willingness to travel to remote project locations for 10‑day rotations and possible camp
- Must pass background check and WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
- Previous work experience in the western U.S.
- Large‑scale terrestrial survey project experience
- Previous Great Basin and/or Southwestern‑specific fieldwork experience
