BAKERY/CAKE DECORATOR – Smith's Food & Drug Centers – Salt Lake City, Utah

Join Smith’s Food & Drug Centers as a Bakery/Cake Decorator. Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintain a safe and clean environment, and assist the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals.

• Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies.
• Prepare bakery items including wedding cakes per customer requests.
• Check product quality, review sell‑by dates, and maintain appropriate storage conditions.
• Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and stock conditions, noting any discrepancies.
• Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
• Reinforce safety programs, comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify management.
• Practice preventive maintenance and report any equipment needing repair.
• Ensure compliance with all merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense, and safety rules.
• Assist customers by answering questions, providing product samples, and recommending bakery items.

• Any retail experience.
• Experience in bakery/cake decorating.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math.
• Effective communication skills.

• Second language proficiency (speak, read, write).
• Knowledge of department products and ability to make recommendations.
• Experience with specifying and adjusting recipes for custom orders.
• Strong inventory management skills and ability to report discrepancies.
• Excellent safety and sanitation knowledge.
