Overview

The University of New Mexico is seeking a skilled Security and Fire Alarms Systems Technician to join our Life Safety team. Reporting to the Alarms Supervisor, this position supports and maintains the University’s life safety systems, including fire alarms, intrusion detection, CCTV, and related security systems. The technician will collaborate with Safety and Risk Services and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), such as the Fire Marshal, to ensure compliance, reliability, and rapid response.

This role requires participation in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation to provide critical support for emergency situations.

• Maintain and support life safety systems including fire alarms, intrusion detection, CCTV, and related security technologies.
• Project management and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Interface with customers (University, Health Sciences organizations, staff, students, and external agencies).
• Estimate and design for new, remodel, and existing buildings for all life safety aspects.
• Coordinate with UNM Police on life safety incidents and support their operations.
• Provide disaster recovery support with design, engineering, configuration, documentation, and testing.
• Interface with vendors and carriers of telecommunications products for design and support as needed.
• Research and test all aspects of Life Safety components and systems.
• Support Cherwell and Pinnacle IT Alarm tasks, trouble tickets, incidents, and projects as needed.
• Review budgets, invoicing, expenses, tracking of products, and use of the PCard process with auditability.

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of directly related experience. Certification/Licensure:
State of New Mexico ES-3J Journeyman Low Voltage Special Systems (under 50 volts). Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
