Perform a variety of journey level, skilled carpentry, cabinetry and general construction duties supporting the construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of City buildings and facilities and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by a two (2) year technical or formal apprenticeship program in finish carpentry or cabinet making; and
Two (2) years of general carpentry experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of aCity Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
- Principles, procedures and terminology used in the carpentry and cabinetry trade
- Tools and materials used in custom carpentry and cabinetry work
- Characteristics of various types of wood
- Stains, sealers, lacquers and other wood treatments and finishes
- Methods and procedures in building construction repair and remodeling
- Finish carpentry including cabinet and furniture making techniques
- Methods and techniques of fence construction
- Methods and techniques of sheet rocking and plastering
- Methods and techniques of surface patching, painting and refinishing
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Correctly used and apply a variety of carpentry and cabinet-making skills
- Design, read and interpret plans and blueprints
- Work with plastic laminates and different types of adhesive
- Repair and/or replace damaged windows, drywall, tiles, roofing and related items
- Estimate time materials and equipment required for jobs
- Measure and cut materials precisely
- Operate all woodworking and wood cutting machines effectively and safely
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
