Pay: During Probation: $26.44/hr;
After Probation: $26.97/hr

Responsibilities- Perform a wide variety of building trades tasks including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and cleaning duties.
- Maintain a written work order log on all projects and submit progress reports on request.
- Report to supervisor on observed violations or client inquiries that require communication with department management.
- Perform basic groundskeeping duties and coordinate additional maintenance and groundskeeping as necessary along with other duties assigned.
- Maintain adequate inventory of equipment, supplies and materials required to complete tasks, initiating new material orders with department administration as needed.
- Check on contracted work orders to ensure that work is completed and acceptable for payment.
- Clear backups; repair leaks; clean stacks, vents, and drains; install fixtures; and conduct regular maintenance and emergency service on MDC facilities.
- Assist in inventory control, ordering repair parts for various systems, and ensure that systems are protected and well maintained.
- Assist with moving office furniture and equipment.
- Drive county vehicles to pick up equipment or supplies.
- Perform preventive maintenance at facilities or on equipment as needed.
- Perform other job related duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Seven (7) years of post‑secondary education and/or experience in building maintenance or a related field.
- Knowledge of safe operation and basic maintenance of hand tools and small power tools.
- Knowledge of basic construction practices.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
- Ability to instruct, schedule and direct the work of others.
- Ability to maintain pleasant working relationships with superiors, subordinates, co‑workers and other County employees.
- Ability to read blueprints and follow light construction specifications.
- Successfully complete the post‑offer medical examination and background investigation.
- Comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
- Possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and retain it while employed.
- Duties performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Indoor duties are performed in a temperature–controlled environment.
- Workers are exposed to natural weather conditions, which may be severe while performing outdoor duties.
- Indoor duties are performed on even surfaces such as carpet, tile or concrete.
- Indoor surfaces are typically dry.
- Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces which may be wet or dry.
- Outdoor duties may be performed on concrete, asphalt, natural ground, ice, snow, gravel, or shingled roof.
- Use of ladders and scaffolding may also be required.
- Worker exposed to occasional vibration and noise while performing maintenance and repair duties.
- Exposure to fumes/odors from paint, chlorine, insecticides, and caustic materials.
- May be exposed to dust and mists during certain outdoor duties.
- Work hazards include climbing ladders and scaffolds, exposure to severe weather, electrical wiring, heavy lifting, rooftop work, slick surfaces, power tools, and safety risks in a correctional facility.
- Worker may be exposed to human waste on a daily basis.
- Use of hand tools and power tools.
- Work aids: ladder, scaffold, tape measure, dolly, hoist, tool box, volt/ohm/milliammeter, flashlight, keys, soldering torch, hydraulic lift, winches, cutting and braising torches, shovels, rakes, lawn mowers, clippers, snow removal machines, painting equipment.
- Electrical parts, appliance parts, plumbing parts including screws, nails, bolts, washers, etc.
