Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the purchasing, maintenance, compliance of the hospital fleet. Key responsibilities include vehicle acquisitions, regulatory compliance, registering and ensuring vehicles, analyzing performance data, and GPS setup and training. Ensures drivers have proper credentialing to operate hospital vehicles including current defensive driving certificate, and a valid New Mexico driver's license. Ensures proper pre-trip safety check is completed. Monitors fuel credit cards and ensures proper use of vehicles.
Analyze fleet performance data such as fuel consumption, idling time, GPS software and uses metrics to report to upper management. Works with Risk Management for claim processing. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
- SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
- TRANSPORTATION - Manage the scheduling, maintenance, operation and safety of the UNMH vehicle fleet and motor pool
- RECORDS - Develop and implement systems to maintain records for preventive maintenance, personnel and materials management, equipment and compliance activities including vehicle maintenance invoice/cost and fuel cards
- VEHICLES - Safely operate Hospitals vehicles in compliance with all city, State, Federal and University and departmental regulations and/or policies
- FLEET - Implement and enforce transportation maintenance schedule, create devising situational plans in the event of vehicle breakdowns, traffic crashes, failed inspections, and develop policies and procedures on processes
- FLEET – Maintain complete fleet inventory to include vehicles, keys and fuel cards
- REPAIRS – Perform minor repairs on vehicles such as wiper blades, fluid levels and tire pressure
- COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements
- BUDGET - Prepare annual budget, monitor expenditures, account for variables for assigned areas
- PROJECTS - Perform special projects as assigned
- DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
- GOALS - Develop, implement, and monitor short and long-term goals and objectives for the Fleet department
- SPECIFICATIONS - Prepares vehicle and equipment specifications considering operational performance, maintenance cost, safety, compliance, and oversee inspection of repaired vehicles and equipment
- PLANNING - Establishing plans for situational events like vehicle breakdowns, traffic accidents, failed inspections, vehicle life cycle management and policies and procedures
- GPS - Help establish a monitoring system to help departments remain aware of driving habits, establish geo fencing and provide training
Education:
- Associate Degree (Essential)
- Bachelor's Degree (Nonessential)

Experience:
Essential: 3 years directly related experience;
Nonessential: 2 years directly related experience.
Credentials:
- Valid New Mexico Driver's License (Essential)
- UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit within 60 days (Essential)
