Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Legionella Risk Assessor / Water Hygiene Consultant

Vectair Environmental Ltd is looking for an experienced Legionella Risk Assessor / Water Hygiene Consultant to join our Water division.

This is a site-based Legionella risk assessment and water hygiene consultancy role. It is not a laboratory microbiology role and it is not a junior water hygiene technician role.

We are looking for someone who can assess domestic hot and cold water systems, understand how they behave in real buildings, identify foreseeable Legionella and water hygiene risks, produce clear technical reports, and provide practical advice to clients.

Alongside carrying out Legionella risk assessments, the successful candidate will provide pragmatic, proactive and reactive technical support to our client base. This may include advising on monitoring findings, adverse microbiological results, control issues, remedial actions, system deficiencies and compliance improvements.

The right person will be technically credible, practical, client-facing and confident enough to explain risk clearly without over complicating it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out Legionella risk assessments on domestic hot and cold water systems.
  • Review water systems including cold water storage tanks, calorifiers, secondary returns, TMVs, outlets, showers, dead legs, low-use outlets, boosted systems and associated plant.
  • Produce clear, technically sound Legionella risk assessment reports with practical and proportionate recommendations.
  • Identify remedial actions, compliance improvements, control failures and system deficiencies.
  • Interpret site findings, monitoring data and water hygiene results in the context of system control.
  • Provide proactive technical support to clients to help improve water hygiene control before issues escalated.
  • Provide reactive technical support following adverse results, monitoring failures, client concerns or compliance issues.
  • Advise clients on practical remedial actions and appropriate control measures.
  • Work closely with our Water Hygiene Technicians, plumbers, risk assessors and internal operations team.
  • Support technical reviews, site investigations, remedial scoping and follow-on works identification.
  • Maintain accurate site notes, photographs, asset information and supporting evidence.
  • Represent the company professionally on client sites.
Key Qualifications
  • Proven experience carrying out Legionella risk assessments on domestic hot and cold water systems.
  • Strong practical knowledge of domestic water systems, including cold water storage, calorifiers, secondary returns, TMVs, outlets, showers, dead legs, low-use outlets and temperature control.
  • Good working knowledge of ACoP L8 and HSG
    274.
  • Ability to produce clear, technically accurate Legionella risk assessment reports with practical, proportionate recommendations.
  • Experience advising clients on Legionella control, remedial actions, monitoring findings and compliance improvements.
  • Ability to interpret site findings and water hygiene results in the context of system control, including Legionella, TVC, coliforms,

    E. coli and Pseudomonas where relevant.
  • Experience providing proactive and reactive technical support to clients following risk assessments, monitoring failures, adverse results or compliance concerns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Must be based within reasonable commuting distance of our head office in Aldermaston, Berkshire, and able to travel regularly to client sites across Greater West London and surrounding areas.
  • Background in plumbing, mechanical engineering, building services or another discipline directly relevant to domestic water systems.
  • Experience working across complex or higher-risk estates, such as healthcare, NHS, care homes, education, commercial or multi-site environments.
  • Familiarity with BS 8580-1 for Legionella risk assessment.
  • Experience supporting investigations into recurring positives, temperature control failures, poor turnover, inadequate flushing regimes or other water hygiene control issues.
  • Experience mentoring or technically supporting junior risk assessors, water hygiene technicians or plumbing staff.
About You
  • Technically strong and confident in your own judgement.
