Job Description
At CHAS, we provide unwavering care to babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions, and support their families across Scotland.
We have an established and highly regarded Advanced Nurse Practitioner team who play a vital role in delivering expert palliative care, care around dying, education, leadership and service development. We are seeking an exceptional Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our ANP Team. The successful candidate will be a key clinical decision-maker, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prescribing for children with complex palliative care needs.
Working within our 7-day ANP rota, you will support families through some of the most challenging times of their lives, including complex symptom management and care around dying.
You will work closely with Paediatric Palliative Care Consultants, nursing colleagues and multidisciplinary partners across NHS Boards and Health and Social Care Partnerships to ensure children and families receive outstanding, person-centred care wherever they choose to be cared for. This role will be based in Robin House. On occasions the successful candidate will be required to travel to Rachel House (temporarily Mina House) and travel to support palliative care and care around dying at home and in Hospitals.
Rachel House, CHAS’ hospice in Kinross (KY13 8FX
) is embarking on an exciting two-year rebuild programme from Summer/Autumn 2026. During this time our hospice services will continue to run from a temporary site in Kinglassie, Fife called Mina House (KY5 0XT
). Mina House is a 20 minute drive from Rachel House.

Qualifications, skills and experience
We are keen to hear from candidates who have the following
- NMC Registration (RN)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Practice
- Qualified Non‑Medical Prescriber with V300 Independent/Supplementary Prescriber registration with the NMC.
- Demonstrated competency in paediatrics, neonatal care, palliative care and care around dying
- Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development, with a portfolio demonstrating relevant training and learning
What You Will Do
Your role will encompass the four pillars of advanced practice with a focus on clinical practice
Clinical Practice
- Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Lead the management of complex symptoms and care around dying.
- Independently prescribe and manage medication safely and effectively.
- Undertake holistic assessments and develop person-centred care plans.
- Support children and families to identify their preferred place of care.
- Contribute specialist expertise to multidisciplinary reviews and case discussions.
- Work across hospice, community and home settings, ensuring seamless care delivery
Leadership
- Act as a clinical leader and role model for advanced practice.
- Support service development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster strong partnerships with NHS and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to quality assurance and demonstrate the impact of advanced practice.
Education and Learning
- Share specialist knowledge across CHAS and partner organisations.
- Support the development of nursing colleagues and students.
- Promote evidence-based practice and professional learning.
Research and Quality Improvement
- Participate in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement projects.
- Contribute to innovation and evidence generation within paediatric palliative care.
- Support improvement initiatives that enhance outcomes for children and families.
