Overview
The purpose of this classification is to perform service maintenance, tire repair and replacement services.
Responsibilities- Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance, including greasing, lubrication, fueling, washing, oil and filter changes, and maintaining proper fluid levels (oil, water, brake, transmission).
- Maintain proper tire air pressure and service batteries; clean engines.
- Clean up oil spills and crush oil filters according to department procedures.
- Replace, repair, rotate, or change tires; mount tires; fix flats; operate tire shop remount/mount equipment following safety procedures.
- Program tire sensors and use proper tools and knowledge of tire equipment.
- Operate a wrecker for road calls and call-outs; provide after-hours and weekend service on a rotating basis; work in all weather conditions; conduct off-site emergency repairs as needed.
- Use computer and scanner to complete required paperwork and logs.
- Assist other fleet maintenance personnel with job duties as needed.
- Conduct State of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspections.
- Complete necessary paperwork for maintenance performed, including recording parts and materials used, current mileage, user comments, and other information.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in automotive maintenance or repair preferred.
- Six (6) months of experience in routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment auto service or tire shop; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain a State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment for this classification.
- Must obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within one month of hire and obtain Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspections certification within one year.
