The Dietary Assistant will perform a variety of food service tasks including food preparation, serving, and storage. Responsibilities may include meal assistance, food portioning, system and sanitation tasks, and coordination with nursing staff.
What You Do in This Role- Promotes meal assistance to patients on a daily basis.
- Tallies food items in a timely manner for handover to production.
- Places items such as eating utensils, napkins, and condiments on trays.
- Accurately serves food items (sandwiches, salads, soups, beverages) according to dietary plans.
- Apports and places food servings on plates and trays according to EFY standards.
- Examines filled trays for completeness and places them on cart.
- Delivers food trays to patients, observing hospital regulations on patient identification, isolation, NPO, and hand hygiene.
- Serves trays following scripting and Care Behaviors.
- Washes dishes and cleans work area, tables, cabinets, and ovens.
- Collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers.
- Maintains positive relationships with nursing and unit clerks.
- Stocks food pantries per FIFO and par procedures.
- Prepares and delivers snacks, nourishments, and tube feedings to patients.
- Verbalizes patient concerns regarding diet, inadequate consumption, and other concerns to clinical dietitian.
- Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an appropriate manner.
- Performs any other tasks assigned.
- Wears appropriate PPE (hair net, gloves, etc.) as required in designated areas.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Food service and customer service experience preferred.
