Searching for Seasonal Tax Preparer for 2025 with a Top 25 CPA firm in both Richmond and Alexandria, VA. Start Feb 2025–Apr 2025.

Position Summary

The Seasonal Tax Preparer will be responsible for preparing and filing tax returns for individuals and small businesses during the busy tax season. This role involves working directly with clients to gather information, prepare tax documents, and ensure accurate and timely filings. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
  • Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns.
  • Interview clients to obtain additional information on taxable income and deductible expenses and allowances.
  • Verify totals on forms prepared by others to detect errors in arithmetic or procedure.
  • Consult tax law handbooks or bulletins to determine procedures for the preparation of atypical returns.
  • Compute taxes owed or overpaid, using adding machines or personal computers, and complete entries on forms, following tax form instructions and tax tables.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
  • Provide excellent customer service and build strong client relationships.
  • Assist clients with basic questions regarding tax forms and other tax-related issues.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in accounting or taxation preferred.
  • 3+ years of tax experience in tax preparation.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software (preferably CCH).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • CPA (a plus), EA (a plus).
