Construction Manager w/ Railway Construction Experience (Full-time)
Location: Alexandria, Virginia
Do you have over 10 years of combined education and experience in construction project management, rail, or bridge inspections, and a history of leading project or task teams for contractors, owners, developers, or designers? MBP is looking for a Construction Manager to support meaningful railway projects that benefit our community. We seek candidates with advanced knowledge and expertise in construction project management, railways, and bridge inspections, and who have demonstrated progressive career development.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Coordinate and track multiple project activities on multiple projects concurrently, determining staffing requirements to ensure adequate coverage.
- Act as overall liaison between the Owner and General Contractors on specialized, multi‑disciplined construction projects, including on‑site construction inspection.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and manage multi‑disciplinary work efforts.
- Oversee validation of products and materials ordered for projects to verify their conformance to specifications.
- Monitor and assess construction performance and record construction activities to ensure compliance with construction documentation requirements.
- Inspect work in progress, ensuring that methods, materials, and equipment conform to approved standards.
- Maintain project documentation, reviewing Construction Inspectors' daily status reports, charting progress of contract schedules via regularly scheduled meetings, reviewing contractor change orders, and incorporating change orders into the project record.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled construction meetings, providing agendas and meeting minutes before and after meetings.
- Assist in training and providing technical expertise and guidance to Construction Inspectors and other team members.
- Review punchlists submitted by others, verifying that items on the punchlist have been completed and corrected prior to recommending substantial completion to the Owner.
- Maintain a perspective overview regarding federal, state, and local laws regulating construction procedures, safety practices, and working conditions.
- Work closely with the Area Safety Officer to facilitate the highest level of safety in and around the work site.
- Provide customer service and good etiquette to adjacent property owners and other project stakeholders.
- Perform various administrative duties, including daily timesheet entry.
- Maintain certifications and re‑certifications.
- Actively participate in company activities, including area and company meetings.
- 10 or more years of combined education and/or experience in construction project management, rail, and/or bridge inspections.
- Extensive construction experience with railways, including functional leadership of project or task teams for a contractor, owner, developer, or designer.
- Evidence of progressive career development.
- General knowledge of MBP's diverse services with demonstrated expertise in one or more service areas or market sectors.
- Leadership and training of team members.
- Management of project teams.

- Clear and professional communication with contractors, owners, and subconsultants regarding work assignments.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Manage a small project team.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Analyze and optimize internal and external processes.
- Stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain.
- Conduct site visits, identify potential construction issues, and propose solutions and alternatives.
- Provide subject‑matter technical engineering expertise and support and review technical work of others.
