Summary
The Social Media Writer creates engaging, accurate, and accessible content for NSF’s official social media channels. This role supports storytelling, public engagement, and outreach by translating NSF programs and research into compelling short‑form content aligned with agency messaging.
Responsibilities- Draft and edit social media posts for multiple platforms
- Collaborate with writers, designers, and multimedia teams on campaigns and storytelling
- Ensure social content aligns with NSF messaging, branding, and communications strategy
- Apply SEO and answer‑engine optimization principles where appropriate
- Monitor engagement metrics and incorporate feedback to improve content performance
- Ensure all content meets federal accessibility and compliance standards
- Support rapid‑response and time‑sensitive communications as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
- 3+ years of experience writing for social media or digital platforms
- Strong understanding of audience‑centered messaging and engagement strategies
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Experience supporting government, nonprofit, or science‑related social media preferred
- Familiarity with accessibility, compliance, and federal communications standards
