Position Summary
As a GO Tutor, you will provide small groups of students with individualized instruction, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities each week in a 100‑hour Ameri Corps service position. You will support groups of students in grades K‑8 in person, averaging 10 hours per week, following one of the schedules below:
- Jefferson‑Houston PreK‑8 IB School: Tuesday through Thursday
- William Ramsay Elementary School
- Literacy – Monday through Friday
- 12:30pm – 2:30pm (1st grade)
- 1:30pm – 3:30pm (2nd & 5th grades)
- Math – 8:30am – 10:30am, Monday through Friday (4th & 5th grades)
- 1:15pm – 4:15pm, Tuesday through Thursday (3rd grade)
- Literacy – Monday through Friday
Academic Tutoring: Work with small groups of students to increase achievement in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Receive lesson materials in advance and prepare for each lesson.
Mentoring & Enrichment: Serve as a mentor, supporting students’ social and emotional development through authentic relationships and goal‑setting.
Qualifications- Minimum of an Associate’s degree or current enrollment in an accredited college or university program.
- Citizenship or legal permanent residency status in the United States.
- Served no more than three previous Ameri Corps service terms.
- At least 18 years of age.
Additional qualifications include:
- Ability to travel to Swanson Middle School 4 days/week at the exact times listed above (transportation not included).
- Passion for service and a growth mindset.

- Belief that all students can succeed.
- Confidence in your ability to lead students to significant academic growth in Math and/or ELA.
- Experience building relationships and communicating in team settings.
- Maturity to work closely with professional peers.
- Organized, able to meet deadlines.
- Open to feedback and lifelong learning.
- Collaborative problem‑solving abilities.
- Prior experience working or volunteering with children is a plus.
• Ameri Corps living allowance (up to $1,800 for 100‐hour service, paid biweekly). The precise amount and payment schedule will be provided in your offer letter.
• Ameri Corps Segal Education Award of up to $416 upon successful completion.
• Valuable professional and personal experience in public education, youth development, civic engagement, teamwork, and leadership.
