Job Overview
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Associate Director’s Office, Office of Energy, is seeking to hire an Executive I to serve as Energy Project Coordinator for designated energy programs. The role supports the planning, development, and implementation of energy initiatives, projects, and policies in coordination with the Office of Energy Manager and Associate Director. Ideal candidates will have experience setting priorities and providing strategic recommendations for program advancement in emission reductions, renewable energy, energy planning, energy efficiency, and/or energy assurance.
They will build and maintain relationships with energy stakeholders, including advocacy groups, utilities, renewable energy providers, community organizations, environmental groups, regulated entities, and elected officials.
- Serves as the Energy Projects Coordinator for the Office of Energy at Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for assigned areas.
- Facilitates the development of alliances with outside stakeholders for assigned areas. Cultivates and maintains internal and external relationships with energy advocacy groups, utilities, renewable energy providers, academia, diverse community groups, social/environmental justice partners, local residents, community leaders, environmental groups, regulated entities, municipalities, industry, and elected officials to implement program initiatives.
- Assists the Office of Energy Manager in the administration of the Energy Program.
- Monitors program activities and reporting for assigned areas.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental developmental equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
- Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency‑approved professional management training program.
- Requires one year of experience in energy policy, energy program design and implementation, energy incentive programs, or energy consumer education.
- Requires one year of experience in developing and presenting informational programs to large and small groups.
- Prefers at least one year of experience in energy policy, energy program design and implementation, energy incentive programs, or energy consumer education.

- Prefers at least one year of experience applying the principles of governmental accounting, program budgeting, personnel, statistics, and procurement.
- Prefers at least one year of experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards.
- Prefers working knowledge of the functions of state government and of the character of relationships between the executive branch with the other branches, and between the State and higher and lower levels of government.
- Prefers ability to exercise judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
- Requires a current and valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Requires the ability to pass a name‑based background check.
