Solar Winds Engineer
6 Month Contract to Hire On-Site, Alexandria, VA
Federal End Client Top Secret Clearance required. An active Secret clearance may be upgraded to TS. W2 Hourly Rate: $65/hr benefits available
Conversion Salary Range: $125,000 to $140,000 annually, plus benefits. ALTA IT Services is seeking a highly skilled Solar Winds Engineer to support the installation, configuration, and operational monitoring of Solar Winds across a large-scale federal enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with system administrators and network teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of network and server infrastructure.

This is an on-site position at a federal end-customer location in Alexandria, VA. An active Top Secret clearance is required per federal requirements. An active Secret clearance may be upgraded to Top Secret. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installation/Upgrade/Testing Support Solar Winds installations, upgrades, and testing of multiple-tier, multiple-server Solar Winds platform, including:
• At least twice-yearly platform upgrades
• Apply critical security vulnerability patches as needed
• Provide Solar Winds expertise at all levels of installations, upgrades, and testing
• Support Installation and testing at all remote sites to include:
• Troubleshoot any installation or upgrade problems
• Configuration as needed
• Document and provide Lessons Learned if applicable Application Growth and Development
• Create custom dashboards for remote and domestic users and groups, including:
• Groupings based on custom properties
• Dynamic custom property-based dashboards that can display based on AD group membership
• Adding components as needed, including the following:
• Additional web front-end servers
• Additional polling engines Operations Support:
• Address and resolve submitted support tickets for Solar Winds
• Provide the help desk with initial troubleshooting steps to determine the type of ticket needed
• Handle day-to-day checks and monitoring Support Ticket Management
• Address and resolve submitted support tickets for Solar Winds.
• Provide the help desk with initial troubleshooting steps to determine the appropriate ticket type. Daily System Checks and Monitoring
• Perform routine checks and monitoring of systems and infrastructure. Network Performance Monitoring
• Detect, report, diagnose, and resolve network performance issues. Virtual Infrastructure Monitoring
• Support monitoring of virtual devices, including:
• ESXi and ESX Server (version 6.7 or later)
• VMware vSphere (version 6.7 or later) Server and Application Monitoring
• Monitor server and application health and performance.
• Conduct login credential monitoring for Windows and VMware servers.
• Review system and application logs regularly. SQL Server Monitoring
• Monitor SQL Server databases.
• Perform database tuning and optimization.
• Provide cross-training of basic Solar Winds administrative tasks to junior team members as needed
• Provide weekly and monthly report metrics and dashboards
• Highlight any emergency concerns as soon as they are identified and provide Risk information and mitigation if identified.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least seven (7) years’ experience working in a large complex environment (> 4K infrastructure components and applications).
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field required, equivalent years of experience will be considered instead of a degree
• Must have an understanding of the administration, support, configuration, and operation of the following: o Routers, switches o Wireless (Cisco WLC) o Firewalls (VPN, remote access) o Cisco Call Manager (CUCM) o Cisco Net Flow configuration o Storage (Brocade, Net App, Commvault, DXI) o Server (Windows, Nix) o Applications (AD, DHCP, DNS, SaaS, PaaS) o Databases (SQL, DB2, Oracle) o Web (IIS, Web Sphere) o Email (Exchange, OWA) o VMware, Hyper-V o Pingdom Web monitoring (CSS, HTML, synthetic transactions)
• Track and monitor all Solar Winds installations using the web console, including the following panels:
