Lead Advisor – AI Risk

Drive applied AI initiatives that strengthen security and resilience. Lead and execute initiatives to improve the security and resilience of AI systems. This role focuses on making AI safer for humans by ensuring that generative AI systems behave appropriately with respect to risks ranging from child safety, to catastrophic terrorism, to user acceptance. Though this role focuses on AI systems, no technical AI / ML or programming skills are needed.

This role focuses on project management, client management, and managing a network of experts to answer technical questions related to AI risk and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design world‑class evaluations for top AI labs and downstream deployers, including benchmarks, red‑teams, and uplift studies.
  • Apply creative, human‑centered design to assess risks such as chemical and biological weapons misuse and societal resilience to persuasion.
  • Pair diverse experts (e.g., sci‑fi authors and biology professors) to red‑team pre‑release AI models.
  • Develop responsible AI frameworks, scaling policies, and safety cases to map risks and mitigate them.
  • Create and deliver responsible AI trainings and toolkits for leaders and work forces.
  • Workshop AI risk scenarios in crisis sectors such as natural disasters, democracy protection, and national security.
  • Identify vulnerabilities where AI may compromise missions across labs, agencies, startups, and nonprofits.
  • Design scalable, cost‑effective solutions to mitigate AI‑related risks.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in security studies, global affairs, or related field.
  • Interested in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Proven experience in AI safety, risk assessment, or national security contexts.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills to manage a team, as well as an expert network with over 400 members.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI frameworks and safety policies.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills for diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with high visibility.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for public trust clearance.
Nice To Have
  • Experience collaborating with top AI labs or federal agencies.
  • Background in national security/risk analysis or assessment.
  • Consulting experience.
  • Exposure to AI‑enabled workflows and societal resilience research.
Bonus Nice to Have
  • Board‑level advisory experience.
  • Published work on AI safety or national security topics.
  • Speaks multiple languages.
