Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt LLP (“Oblon”) seeks an Associate or Patent Agent with at least 3 years of post-AIA patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting to join its Chemical Patent Prosecution Practice Group on-site in its Alexandria, Virginia office (hybrid role; in-office presence 3 days per week). An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in the field of organic chemistry is required and industrial experience is a plus.
Candidates must possess superior technical knowledge, writing and communication skills.
ResponsibilitiesDepending on the role, responsibilities would include:
- Analysis and preparation of replies to office actions
- Invention and disclosure meetings/calls with clients
- Preparation and prosecution of new patent applications
- Counseling clients on patent-related matters and portfolio analysis
- Agreements and related transactions
- Appeals
- Potentially assisting with the review and training of junior chemical patent practice professionals
We seek candidates with a demonstrated track record of academic achievement and superior writing and interpersonal skills to assist Firm clients in securing patent protection for complex technologies and providing strategic intellectual property procurement and counseling.
Associate candidates must possess a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and be licensed to practice and in good standing before a state bar and before the USPTO. Patent Agent candidates must be registered to practice before the USPTO and in good standing.
Compensation & BenefitsThe salary range for the Associate position is $165,000 - $200,000. The salary range for the Patent Agent position is $115,000 - $150,000. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and experience.
