Lead Bridge Maintenance Technician

Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is seeking full‑time Skilled Highway Maintenance Technicians to work on the Traveling Bridge Crew, performing advanced maintenance operations in the United States, primarily in Virginia and Tennessee. The crew prefers candidates based in Northern Virginia, but will consider Nashville, TN. Must be able to work day, mid, and night shifts.

Travel requirements: ~75% of time will be overnight travel. First six months will be scheduled in Alexandria, Virginia, and Nashville, Tennessee, but assignment may vary.

Major Functions
  • Familiar with roadway, concrete and steel bridge repair, drainage structures, guardrail and sign installation, concrete forming/repair, and other road assets.
  • Perform amour and finger‑joint repair and replacement, install polymer nosing, asphalt plug, and silicone.
  • Operate saws, sand blaster, jack hammer, chipping hammer, rivet buster, hot‑pour rubber machines, air compressor, and welding equipment.
  • Use shovels, weed‑trimming machinery, brooms, and small hand tools.
  • Lead a maintenance team, train technicians, and schedule work to maximize productivity.
  • Complete daily work reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Operate hand/power tools and equipment safely, and maintain them for long life.
  • Follow site safety precautions, maintain a secure job site, and operate company‑owned SUV and up to ¾‑ton pickup trucks.
Minor Functions
  • Complete daily logs and perform routine vehicle maintenance checks.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and required training.
  • Be dependable, proactive, and provide assistance to coworkers.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of concrete bridge repair: repair, joint replacement, bridge demolition, polymer nosing, asphalt plug, silicone.
  • Proficient operation of cutting, blasting, and welding equipment, including hot‑pour rubber machines.
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices, lane closures, traffic control certifications (MOT), lockout/tagout.
  • Experience with steel bridge repair is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of related construction or roadway maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver’s license;
    Class‑A preferred.
  • Guardrail, sign, and concrete forming/repair experience.
  • Crew and compensation management experience.
  • Exposure to shovels, weed‑trimming machinery, brooms, and small hand tools.
  • Air‑compressor and sandblasting equipment operation.
  • Fluency in English;
    Spanish reading/writing preferred but not required.
  • Clean driving record; must pass criminal background check.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Lift at least 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Access and work on bridge structures; work safely in vehicle traffic zones.
  • Work in hot, cold or wet conditions for extended periods.
  • Stand for long periods while operating equipment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment at all times.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Computer skills;
    Microsoft Office.
  • Background check compliance (driving, criminal, drug).
  • Local driving rules knowledge and arithmetic ability.
  • Adapt to latest technology and changing work schedules.
  • Operate hand/power tools and lift up to 50 pounds.
Schedule

Full‑time; day, mid, and night shifts. Must work weather events such as snow, ice, and floods.

Special

Position Requirements

Independent and team work under weather and environmental challenges, including high vehicle traffic operations. Adherence to Jorgensen’s safety policy and PACT culture required.

Jorgensen operates a 24/7, 7 day a week operation. Schedules vary with workload, client requests, location, and emergencies. Must work various schedules and assist with on‑call activities as assigned.
