Maintenance, This position performs journeyman level repairs, maintenance and modification on all DASH vehicles and related equipment. The B Mechanic reads and understand diagnostic’s, repair / service procedure manuals and applies such knowledge to repair tasks. This position frequently uses laptops and related technology to perform vehicle diagnosis and to perform scheduled maintenance. Upon completion of repairs, the B Mechanic test drives vehicles to ensure proper performance and completeness of repair.
The pay rate for this role is $32.52 an hour, and will be filled on second shift (2:30pm to 11:00pm) or third shift (10:30pm to 7am).
- Performs all levels of Preventative Maintenance Inspection on all DASH vehicles.
- Performs all levels of unscheduled repairs on all DASH vehicles, diagnosing equipment for proper repairs.
- Requests and orders required parts for repairs and maintenance.
- Opens work-orders for all repairs or services / inspections.
- Test drives vehicles for verification of proper operation prior to and upon completion of repairs.
- Follows established procedures / OEM procedures for all maintenance/repairs.
- Works independently while performing job duties.
- Reads and understands repair manuals.
- Reads and understands wiring schematics.
- Has thorough knowledge of compulsory DOT requirements.
- Uses computers daily for work-orders and looking up equipment.
- Assists other mechanics when necessary.
- Maintains working area cleanliness and organization.
- Uses hand tools, pneumatic tools and hydraulic tools including ancillary shop equipment daily.
- Makes road calls or service calls.
- Performs related tasks and duties as required.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- A complete set of mechanics tools.
- Computer literacy, ability to use vehicle maintenance management technology
- Knowledge of electrical wiring fundamentals
- Ability to read manuals and schematics.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effective verbally and in writing.
- Ability to make independent decisions within scope of responsibility.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to:
- Deal with the public on a secondary basis.
- Greet and meet with visitors, clearly disseminate information to others.
- Concentrate on priority tasks with frequent interruptions.
Ability to:
- Bend, squat, and climb stairs.
- Work on the road in varying weather conditions assisting in maintenance operations.
- Move throughout facilities and grounds.
- Lift at least 60 pounds.
- Work in confined spaces.
Special Requirements
- Completion of comprehensive background check
- Possession of a valid, non-expired, CDL Permit or CDL Class B License (with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements) from Washington D.C., Virginia, or Maryland
- Passing the DOT physical exam or current possession of a valid, non-expired, DOT physical card with no less than a 6-month validation period or more
- Negative pre-employment drug screen results
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum two (2) years of vehicle maintenance or mechanic experience required.
Education and Experience
- Relevant technical school training or certifications
- Four (4) years or more of vehicle maintenance or mechanic experience.
- Prior diesel experience.
