The Alfred Foundation invites applications for the Headspace Private Practitioner position.
About UsEstablished in 2006, headspace offers a ‘one-stop shop’ for young people aged 12-25 and their families who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. It provides an opportunity for early help and a ‘no wrong door’ approach with GPs, counselors, alcohol & other drug workers, and vocational and educational support.
What You’ll Be DoingThe Allied Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for providing counselling services to young people aged 12–25 at headspace under a Mental Health Care Plan, through Medicare-funded items as a private provider. You will work with an experienced access team that screens referrals, allocates to the appropriate private practitioner based on the young person’s needs, and schedules first‑time clients into your appointment schedule.
This role requires you to be a contracted private practitioner with Alfred Health operating from the headspace Centre.
- Occupational Therapist / Social Worker / Psychologist / Psychiatrist / General Practitioner
- Operate as a session‑based private practitioner, setting your own hours
- Locations:
Bentleigh, Elsternwick, or Syndal - Honorary employee to Alfred Health, fixed‑term to June 2026
- Must have a provider number for bulk‑billing to Medicare
- Provide individual counselling services to young people under a Mental Health Care Plan.
- Work collaboratively with the access team to screen and refer clients.
- Schedule and manage appointments in line with your selected hours.
- Maintain professional standards as a private practitioner contracted through Alfred Health.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and registration (AHPRA or AASW).
- Provider number for bulk‑billing to Medicare.
- Indemnity insurance to the value of $10 million.
- Current working rights visa.
- Completion of a Police Check and Working with Children Check.
- Involvement in an innovative youth mental health program that makes a real difference in the community.
- No fee charges for room or reception, so you receive 100 % of the Medicare billing. Where clients can afford it, you may receive a full fee payment of $35 above the Medicare rebate amount.
