Controls Engineer I
The Controls Engineer I is responsible for programming, implementation, and startup of automation and integration projects. This role ensures smooth project execution, high-quality system performance, and strong customer satisfaction. The engineer will work across PLC/HMI programming, electrical controls, and process engineering, reporting into the Project Management Team depending on project assignment.
Base pay range$80,000.00/yr - $/yr
Must-Have Qualifications- 4–8+ years of experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC circuits, instrument loops, PLCs)
- Hands‑on experience with PLC programming software such as Studio
5000, RSLogix 500, Factory Talk Suite, GE Products, Ignition, Aveva/Wonderware - Working knowledge of instrumentation (discrete/analog devices, flow meters, VFDs, scales)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to collaborate well with internal teams
- Understanding of automation/integration concepts: system architecture, data mapping, API integration
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer and team interaction
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively and quickly
- Familiarity with industry‑standard automation and integration tools
- Ideally onsite once per week
- Up to ~20% travel (mostly 1–2 day trips); occasional multi‑day Midwest travel
- Rare larger commissioning/startup events (1–2 weeks), with weekends at home
- First week of employment will be spent training onsite in Algonquin
- Mileage reimbursed at standard federal rate for day trips
- No per diem for day trips
- Overnight travel includes per diem for food and rental car
- Company credit card provided for booking travel and accommodations
- After ~6 months, added to rotating on‑call schedule
- Rotation is once every 2.5–3 months, one week at a time
- Typically 6–8 calls during that week, some may occur at night
