Construction Equipment Operator/Crew Leader
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent or Lead Equipment Operator, operates a variety of heavy and light equipment in the construction and maintenance repairs of City utility installations. Operates heavy construction equipment such as front-end loader, motor grader, backhoe, trackhoe, compactor, graders or heavy trenching machines and other types of machinery to excavate, move and grade earth. MUST have experience and be skilled with a Motor Grader.
Responsibilities- Operate construction equipment such as bulldozer, loader, motor grader, backhoe, trackhoe, compactor, pneumatic roller, and water trucks.
- Fasten attachments to equipment with clevis or wedge pin hitches.
- Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to equipment to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
- Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on all equipment.
- Drive construction equipment over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
- Follow all safety protocols and promote a safe work environment.
- Exercise good judgment when making decisions, with little supervision.
Education/Certification: Individual must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. High School Diploma/GED preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to correctly prioritize workload.
Experience: 8+ years of heavy equipment operation.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental DemandsPosture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing; wrist movements; pushing/pulling; coordinating hand and foot movements to operate equipment for long periods.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 100 pounds) frequently.
Environment: Outdoor work; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, sewage, water, chemicals and materials, noise, vibration; bright sunlight; moving objects or vehicles; insects and rodents; exposure to high-speed mechanical parts.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
