Akkodis is seeking a Technical Author for a client in Allen Park, MI. The candidate will work closely with a team lead or project manager to develop and deliver high-quality product information. You will collaborate directly with clients to ensure their specifications and expectations are met, and play a key role in developing or updating service materials based on end-user needs.

As a Technical Author, you will utilize various computer systems to deliver the final product while managing your tasks to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.

Pay Range: $30/hr - $32/hr (The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.)

Schedule:

9 AM - 3 PM EST, primary working hours, flexible around this time frame

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with the team lead/project manager to finalize the product, and liaise directly with clients for input and feedback.
• Develop or update service information in alignment with client needs and current product data.
• Research product-specific information and consult with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs).
• Ensure that all projects meet the established budget, timeline, and quality expectations.
• Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to resolve any issues or address concerns.
• Work with department management and support staff to acquire resources and direction.
• Contribute to diverse tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
• Author labor times in conjunction with repair procedures, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
• Participate in client meetings and collaborate on problem resolution.

Required Experience & Skills:

• Minimum 2 years of dealership diagnostic repair experience (bumper-to-bumper).
• Experience in collision repair, spot welding, body measurements, hanging panels, and painting.
• Strong technical writing experience, with the ability to develop detailed service documentation.
• Proficiency in using various computer programs, including MS Office.
• Familiarity with automotive diagnostics and modern vehicle systems (hybrids, diesel, etc.).
• Prior experience in technical authoring, with an understanding of flat rate labor time methods.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen eye for grammar, punctuation, and clarity.
• XML Editor experience is a plus but can be trained.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents, schematics, and engineering materials.
• Ability to manage and meet deadlines with a focus on delivering high-quality work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Recent college graduates with relevant hands-on experience in automotive repair will also be considered.
• Knowledge of automotive recall or TSB processes is a plus.
• Engineering degree and/or state or ASE certifications are preferred.
