Full-Time - Must be flexible for shift work and occasional weekend coverage based on testing schedules
Epitec is seeking an experienced Aerodynamic Clay Master Modeler to support the fabrication, modification, and restoration of hybrid clay, rapid prototype, and composite aerodynamic test models. This is a highly hands-on position for an accomplished automotive clay modeler with expertise in A-surface development, clay milling, CNC equipment, rapid prototyping, and vehicle model modification
. You will work closely with engineering and wind tunnel teams to prepare and modify models for aerodynamic testing while maintaining exceptional standards for precision, safety, quality, and prototype confidentiality.
- Perform high-precision automotive clay modeling and aerodynamic surface sculpting
. - Prepare vehicles and models for wind tunnel testing, including installation and removal of test hardware.
- Execute vehicle component changes involving grilles, mirrors, spoilers, underbody shields, tires, and other aerodynamic components
. - Fabricate prototype parts using clay, foam core, metal/aluminum, rapid prototyping, and composite materials
. - Operate CNC clay milling equipment to produce and refine surface geometry.
- Finish, post-process, and assemble 3D-printed components for installation on test models.
- Open and review CAD files and geometry references used in model development.
- Use digital scanning equipment to capture model surfaces.
- Support hardware and model changes during active wind tunnel test sessions.
- Interpret test matrices and engineering modification requests.
- Work independently under tight testing schedules while coordinating closely with engineers and wind tunnel operators.
- Follow applicable safety procedures, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and lockout/tagout requirements
. - Maintain strict confidentiality and security when working with prototype vehicles and designs.
- 5+ years of demonstrated automotive clay modeling experience
, including aerodynamic surface sculpting and A-surface development. - Strong hands-on clay modeling skills and experience operating a CNC clay milling machine
. - Experience modifying vehicle components such as grilles, mirrors, spoilers, underbody shields, and tires.
- Experience fabricating parts using clay, foam core, metal/aluminum, rapid prototyping, or composites
. - Experience with rapid prototype part finishing and machine operations.
- Experience with post-processing and assembly of 3D-printed parts
. - Ability to open and review CAD files required for modeling work.
- Ability to operate CNC fabrication equipment, including laser/plasma table equipment.
- Experience using digital scanning equipment to capture surfaces.
- Ability to read and interpret test matrices, engineering change requests, and CAD/geometry references.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts and weekends when required by testing schedules.
- Must have your own professional clay modeling tools
. - High School Diploma/GED or applicable certification program required.
- Ability to create simple CAD geometry.
- Ability to convert CAD files into 3D-print-ready files
. - Experience writing G-code
. - Ability to manipulate scan data/software and compare scanned surfaces against CAD geometry.
- Experience with or willingness to train on laser tracking, 3D scanning, and photogrammetry documentation
. - Associate or Bachelor’s degree.
Candidates should submit a detailed resume highlighting relevant modeling and fabrication skills, along with examples or a portfolio of previous modeling work. Examples demonstrating automotive clay modeling, surface development, prototype fabrication, milling, or related model-making work are especially relevant.
Additional Details- Fully onsite position
- Shift flexibility and occasional weekend coverage are required based on wind tunnel testing schedules.
