Job OverviewThe City of Allen, with over 100,000 residents, is a dynamic and welcoming community. As a Police Recruit, you will patrol city streets, enforce traffic laws, investigate crimes, and maintain positive community relations. Your work will involve foot, bike, and vehicle patrols, responding to emergency calls, and working collaboratively with other city agencies.
Essential Functions- Patrol city streets and districts by foot, bike, or vehicle, deterring crime by presence, assisting in high‑risk situations, conducting surveillance, taking reports, and operating police equipment.
- Enforce traffic laws, respond to Dispatch Center calls, conduct traffic stops, search vehicles when probable cause exists, issue citations or warnings, and file reports.
- Attend motor vehicle accidents, clear roads, interview involved parties, gather evidence, record findings, issue citations, and file accident reports.
- Investigate crimes by interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects, documenting evidence, filing reports, and coordinating with the District Attorney’s office for charges.
- Maintain community relations by answering citizen queries, providing civic services, surveying public concerns, and promoting a secure environment.
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 2.0 or higher; or
- At least 4 years of active‑duty military service with honorable discharge; or
- Current Allen PD employee with at least 2 years of civilian experience and 30 college credits, GPA 2.0 or higher.
- Certification & Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license (TX Driver’s License required by employment).
- Eligibility for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Special Requirements:
- Pass pre‑employment screenings including CJIS and fingerprint checks.
- Availability for the scheduled exam on March 7, 2026.
- Entrance Examination: Four‑part test (reading comprehension, arithmetic, spelling/grammar, writing). Score ≥70% required to advance.
- Physical Assessment:
- 1.5‑mile run: 15:26
- 300‑meter run: 62 seconds
- Push‑ups: 26 (no time limit)
- Sit‑ups: 30 in 60 seconds
- Background investigation, interview board, polygraph, psychological exam, and final physical/medical exam will follow successful completion of the initial phases.
- At least 21 years of age.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Fluent English reading, writing, and speaking.
- One of the educational paths listed above.
- Honorable discharge from any active‑duty military service or proof of eligibility if military service is uncharacterized.
- Valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license.
- No convictions of family‑violence offenses, no ongoing community supervision or probation for serious offenses, and no prior convictions of Class A or B misdemeanors within the last ten years.
- Clean record for traffic violations (maximum three moving violations or preventable accidents in the last 36 months).
- No pending criminal charges, court‑ordered community service, or probation for serious offenses.
- Excellent moral character and ability to work shift, holiday, and weekend schedules.
- Vision 20/20 (or corrected) in each eye, hearing loss within allowable limits.
Tattoos may appear on the arms but must be approved if short sleeves are worn. Tattoos on the hands, neck, face, or head are not allowed. Visible tattoos on the arms may be covered with long sleeves in uniform.
