The Position

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer plays a key leadership role in driving strategic growth through de novo development, acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures (JV) across all markets in the US. This individual will build a pipeline of hospital development opportunities and lead market and rehabilitation bed need assessments in collaboration with the executive team, investors, and the Board of Managers.

Additionally, the Chief Development Officer will lead site development and relationship building with physicians, investors, and community partners to expand the organization’s national rehabilitation footprint. The Chief Development Officer serves as a key advisor to the CEO and collaborates closely with the executive team.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Growth & Market Development

  • Identifying new market opportunities and opportunities to compete in the targeted states and segmented by de novo, JV, acquisition, CON, inpatient rehabilitation unit consolidation and management, etc…
  • Developing comprehensive Market Summary for each targeted opportunity including market overview including population summary, bed need analyses, competitor review including referral analysis, operating and financial performance, referral patterns and strategic assessments and identify JV and CON scenarios.
  • For targeted JV opportunities, leading the outreach to health system executive contacts regarding interest and lead JV discussions and process in collaboration with the CEO
  • Responding to and managing the process for Request for Proposals specific to JV and / or acquisitions in collaboration with CEO
  • Understanding state by state Certificate of Need targets and processes for application, timelines and consultants needed. Managing application processes and leveraging appropriate consultants.
  • Collaborating with market healthcare real estate brokers to search for optimal land sites or acquisition opportunities which includes requests of population density for targeted land by Medicare population, discharge volumes from area hospitals, etc…
  • Overseeing de novo facility development and joint venture opportunities with local providers
Relationship Management

Building relationships through various networking systems, prior contacts, health systems, and other healthcare leaders and consulting companies

Business Analysis & Execution
  • Serving as super user of market analysis, market databases, and proprietary market analysis tools
  • Creating presentation-ready market summaries with all analysis and insights
Leadership

Providing updates to CEO on new hospital / unit pipeline, market summaries, analysis, and development strategies

The Successful Candidate

The Chief Development Officer will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to play a key role in the strategic growth of this organization. These competencies include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • 10+ years of progressive new market rehabilitation hospital and / or rehabilitation unit development
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field
  • Demonstrated track record of successful leadership of growing organizations, including M&A
  • Skill in collecting, examining, and organizing data with healthcare market-based industry tools specific to post-acute care, such as Definitive Healthcare
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building capabilities
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency with MS Office and common web applications
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Track record of success in fast-paced, high-accountability environments
