Seasonal Pediatric Emergency Dept Registered Nurse

Compensation & Schedule
  • Specialty Rate: $62/hr plus applicable differentials.
  • Schedule:

    PRN Days 7A–7P.
Seasonal Program Requirements
  • All seasonal RNs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period.
  • Employees may be asked to float to another facility within the local geography with an emergent staffing need.
  • Four weekend shifts are required each 4‑week schedule period.
  • During the 32‑week program, the employee is required to work two holiday shifts as defined by the Department Manager.
  • Seasonal staff are PRN employees and are subject to first call‑off. No guaranteed hours are provided.
  • Seasonal staff are not eligible for benefits, except 401(k) and retirement contribution per the PRN policy.
  • Seasonal staff are not eligible for extra shift bonuses.
  • Registered Nurses in the seasonal program have one opportunity to pass the clinical competency evaluation.
  • Current patients of HWS or Medical City Dallas are not eligible to join the Seasonal Program for 2025‑26.
  • Shifts may vary based on departmental needs.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care consistent with state and specialty standards.
  • Assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after interventions.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers and document care promptly in the patient medical record.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipating and resolving needs proactively.
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, possible side effects, and follow‑up measures, translating complex terminology when necessary.
  • Educate patients and families on non‑medicinal follow‑up measures such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes, preparing them for future self‑management.
Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) must be obtained within 18 months of employment start date.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) must be obtained within 18 months of employment start date.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with 12‑month enrollment and 24‑month completion.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or BCLS Instructor certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
