Department Overview
The Cloud Platform and Services team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Video and Software division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform to build at scale.

Job Description

Our Platform Engineers

• Develop common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutions
• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines with Dev Ops principles
• Instrument services according to Site Reliability Engineering best practices
• Support secure and highly available deployments of their work around the world

The right individual will demonstrate a motivating passion for automation, deployment processes and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Video and Software organization.

Responsibilities

• Deeply understand Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, etc
• Scope, design, and develop custom solutions that leverage Elastic and/or Prometheus stacks on Kubernetes
• Operate large Elasticsearch and Prometheus clusters (100s of nodes)
• Minimize delivery time and increase developer productivity through automation
• Work On-call shifts for services deployed and/or developed by the team
• Maintain ship and US residency
• Lead by example and participate in early morning daily standups (we work with worldwide teams)

Qualifications

• Proven experience with building applications against third-party system APIs
• Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform) and their CLI tools
• Comfortable switching between Java, Spring framework, Golang, and/or Python
• Familiarity with modern development operations tooling (Trace based application performance monitoring, docker containers, and similar)
• Mentoring experience with more junior team members and leading development work by example
• Pipeline automation experience
• Know the difference between SLOs, SLIs, and SLAs, and what good ones look like

Preferred Qualifications

• A background in Linux/Unix Administration
• Prior experience operating Elasticsearch and/or Prometheus clusters
• Prior experience being on-call for services developed by the team
• Demonstrated experience developing and deploying automation for services on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud

Skills:

• Experience with event streaming platforms such as Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Azure Event Hubs, or Google Cloud Platform Pub Sub
• IAM expertise (Azure Active Directory, AWS IAM or Google Cloud Platform IAM)
• Mastery of Github Actions

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Our customers also require ship and residency for this role.

Target Base Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000 USD.
