GEI is seeking a motivated Project Manager seller-doer with a focus on delivering projects in Michigan and other Midwest states. Expert support in project/construction management, client development and coordination of key natural resource projects would be expected. Our natural resource/ecological team currently offers a variety of services including habitat restoration, wetland delineations, permitting, threatened and endangered species surveys and coordination, GIS/CADD support, and more.

  • Manage the construction and implementation of restoration projects including but not limited to – stream bank and floodplain construction, native tree and shrub planting, seeding, erosion control measure installation, invasive species control, etc.
  • Provide project management support, including the tracking of financial performance of projects, supervision and coordination of field crews, and regular communication and coordination with clients.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work performed to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns and providing updates on project progress
  • Assist in preparing project budgets and monitor expenses to ensure profitability
  • Prepare project scopes and pricing development.
  • Serve as a technical/team leader and mentor to field staff and other environmental/construction staff.
  • Provide training to crew members on restoration techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols
  • Assist with bioengineering and ecological restoration design.
  • Oversee the collection of field data, analyze data, and prepare technical reports and permit applications.
  • Grow our ecological and natural resources practice in the Midwest by developing new and existing clients and markets, including assisting our marketing team with request for proposal/request for qualifications submissions.
  • Cross-sell GEI’s other core business areas including traditional environmental, geotechnical, water resources, and civil engineering consulting.
  • Coordinate business development activities within the practice; identify key clients / business areas, growth strategy, and capture strategy.
  • Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in client-based professional organizations, and make presentations at industry events.
  • Contribute to strategic planning at the office, regional and national level.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry) - or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s Degree in construction related discipline such as Construction Management or Civil Engineering with experience in restorative practices will also be strongly considered.
  • Five-years of wetland or natural resource restoration experience in Michigan or the Midwest.
  • Experience leading teams in various types of natural resource projects.
  • Senior leader recognized for technical excellence and the development of client-focused, creative and practical solutions.
  • Seller-doer with established local network of clients and contacts, entrepreneurial spirit, and a successful track record in business development.
  • Proven track record of safely planning, implementing and tracking successful projects.
  • Collegial team builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Broad local/regional understanding of discipline needs and emerging trends.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices, and project/client sites as required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
