– The Role
Barhale is one of three delivery partners within the Anglian Water Integrated Operational Solutions Alliance. We seek an experienced Project Engineer to join our team, delivering wastewater infrastructure and non‑infrastructure design projects under an NEC contract. The role covers the full project lifecycle from conceptual design to construction issue drawings, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, subcontractors, surveyors and consultants.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate the design process for water industry projects from feasibility to detailed design and construction.
- Receive client needs and carry out root‑cause analysis.
- Develop conceptual designs to address the client's needs.
- Create a P6 programme and attend programme reviews.
- Act as the key interface between client, design consultants and internal delivery teams to ensure NEC contract compliance.
- Manage design deliverables, including reports, drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Support the Programme Delivery Manager with change control, early warnings, risk management and design communications under NEC.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, health & safety requirements and technical standards.
- Attend design and project progress meetings, internally and with clients.
- Resolve RFIs and technical queries during design and construction.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Maintain project logs and registers.
- Discharge duties under CDM 2015.
- Manage HSE in the pre‑construction phase to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
- Ensure quality in pre‑construction surveys, site investigations and deliverables in line with the ‘be right first‑time’ programme.
- Successful delivery on time and within budget.
- Contracts managers, QS, Project Delivery Manager, Procurement manager, Planner, Project managers, Design and Engineering Team Leads.
- Site agents and site team.
- Client’s commissioning & engineering & technical assurance teams.
- Degree level or equivalent in an engineering‑related subject.
- Industry experience and qualifications recognised in place of a degree.
- Proficiency with Office 365.
- Knowledge of health & safety legislation.
- Strong communication at all levels.
- Team player with ability to coordinate project activities with clients’ consultants and 3rd parties.
- Familiarity with WIMES Standards.
- Experience in the utilities industry, especially water & wastewater.
- Programme and schedule management skills.
- Commercial and contract knowledge.
- Understanding of BIM.
- PRINCE2 or other project management qualifications.
- SMSTS or NEBOSH qualified.
