Overview

Car Repairer role at Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company. Alliance, Nebraska. This position involves removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures.

Removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures. Starting pay at $21.00/hr with opportunity for pay raises through up to 17 skills tests at $0.25 each. Offering a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

• Removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures
• Repair or replace worn mechanical components
• Fabricate, assemble or disassemble manufactured products
• Read blueprints and technical drawings; use tape measure
• Read and understand work orders and correctly record repairs
• Understand service and repair manuals and apply constraints to repairs and modifications
• Use oxy/fuel torch, arc welding equipment and power tools
• Apply decals, stenciling and touch-up painting on railcars
• Perform duties in compliance with Progress Rail safety policies
• Complete duties within established time standards

• Prefer High School Education or GED

• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read precision instruments and gauges
• Ability to work from blueprints and technical drawings
• Capable use of hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools, cutting torches and welding machines
• Ability to work around and operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment
• Ability to work from heights over 6 feet
• Work on varied surfaces (concrete floors, gravel, rail car floors)
• Constant standing and walking
• Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, climbing ladders
• Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs

Note: Must have a valid driver's license

• Strength: push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs
• Motion: constant standing and walking; frequent bending and reaching; work at heights above shoulder level
• Vision/Hearing: operate in high-noise environments (above 85 decibels)
• Work Environment: work from heights, varied surfaces, and around overhead cranes and mobile equipment
• Emotional Demands: able to work alone and in a team setting
• Safety: this is a safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to safety policies and use of PPE
